Τhe Vigneron Project, Prosilio 2024, Agiorgitiko, Peloponnese

A new effort by sommelier Petros Dimoulias, aiming for a terroir-driven expression of Agiorgitiko without the vanilla effect that so often masks the variety. Bottled at 13% abv, aged for 8 months in oak, with just 1,100 bottles produced.

Deep ruby in colour, it opens with a moderately expressive yet very pure nose of dark red cherries, strawberries and light oak, backed by herbs and a faint gamey nuance. The profile is well defined and focused. The palate is refined, with juicy tannins and an overall velvety character that gives the wine real charm and drinkability. There is a slight bitter edge on the finish, though it does not significantly disturb the balance. Promising and thoughtfully made, although the ambitious pricing places immediate pressure on the wine to deliver at a very high level. (Yiannis Karakasis MW)
