Georgas, Black Label Savatiano 2018
(87)
Dimitris Georgas is a small grower, in Spata of Attica, in Central Greece, the historical center of Retsina, and a pioneer in biodynamics in Greece. He focuses on the Savatiano grape, natural, skin contact wines and Retsinas off course. His winemaking follows the nothing added, nothing taken principles.
The 2018 single vineyard Savatiano is an interesting orange wine to follow although it is not the easiest one to enjoy. On the nose green almonds, orange zest and a candied pear character. Some saltiness perhaps. Fully developed and lightly tannic on the palate, ripe and honeyed but with tension, I guess it is more Georgas than Savatiano or is it the other way around?
