Lacovino, Astrolabos 2018
(A blend of three indigenous varieties, Monemvasia and Kydonitsa are sourced from 40 years old dry-farmed vines, matured for 5 months in French oak, 9000 bottles, TA 6.60, pH 3.25, 12.8% abv) Lovely oak handling with just a touch of toasty complexity on top of pears and apricots. There is a lot of herbal nuances that producer attributes to mountainous Monemvasia. On the palate, it is vivacious and persistent with a long spicy finish and a fine vein of acidity. Touch of bitterness at the end yet overall an exciting wine from Laconia in the Peloponnese. Unnecessary heavy bottle.
