Mercouri Refosco Clone Mercouri 2016
This comes from the historic vineyard of the Estate planted in 1870. 0.5 ha of pre-phylloxera vines that have survived up to now. Production is just 2000 bottles. This is a classic example that highlights the greatness of Old Vines. Grace and power on the nose and palate with depth of fruit but there is also a certain element of lightness making the wine fabulous to drink. Warm spice, smoke, black cherries but also violets lead the way to a palate that retains its elegance despite the 14% abv. Perfect tannins and a long lingering finish. Singular. (14% abv, TA 6 g/L, pH 3.4)
