Judging Turkish wines in Izmir
For the past three days I have been in Izmir in Turkey judging Turkish wines in a very well organized format, together with Isa Bal MS, Dilek Caner MW and other old and new wine friends like Umay Ceviker, Ayhan Guleyen, Serdar Balkaya and Tugba Altinoz among others. In total, approximately 240 wines were tasted and I am happy to say that I tasted quite a few really good, exciting and definitely complex terroir - driven wines.
I have visited also, fantastic in concept, wineries like Urla and I plan to come back on that and on my overall impressions on Turkish wines and the progress that has been achieved so far. For now however, I would like to communicate the wines that scored above 92 points and are regarded as the Gold medals winners.
