The comeback of dry Muscat: Muscat Selection Nature 2019
By Yiannis Karakasis MW
Another great addition to the new wave of dry Muscats from Samos and beyond (should not forget the fascinating Muscat of Spina from Crete), the Muscat Selection Nature 2019 is a standout wine. It is layered with electrical acidity and a super long finish, a collaboration of Oenos FPL and Nopera Wine.
Grapes are sourced from a single vineyard of 60 year-old-vines in the highlands of Samos at 900 m elevation in the Karvouni area. Ferments and matures in second use oak with just a splash of SO2 (total SO2 is 48 mg/lt).
This Muscat has an Assyrtiko acid structure with 2.9 pH and seven g/lt acidity. It is beyond doubt one of the most fascinating whites I have lately tasted with a long life ahead. So get your hands on a bottle of this beauty; it over-delivers in terms of flavour with just 12.9% abv. Total production is 1800 bottles, and 2019 is the second vintage. 2020 is scheduled shortly to be released. (retail price is approximately 20 euros in the domestic market).
