Petrakopoulos, Roz 2019

Petrakopoulos, Roz 2019

In Thiramona of Cephalonia, Nikos Petrakopoulos continues a family tradition that is rooted back to the Byzantine era and the great families of Melissinos and Solomos. His goal is to express the unique terroir of Cephalonia working only with native and local varieties. Roz is the rosé version of Mavrodaphne, a variety that was until recently associated only with sweet wines. Grapes are sourced from three small vineyards in 350m altitude in the area of Palliki in Cephalonia in clay, silty soils.

The 2019 produced in 3350 bottles is a charming wine in a Provence style that is pure and complex on the nose with cherries, roses, lavender and a note of minerality. On the palate, it is fresh and just ripe delivering all the primary fruit aromatic spectrum of Mavrodaphne. There is a lot of flavour with only 12.5% abv making the wine suitable for many summer dishes, mainly based on vegetables. A delicious wine that is a step higher compared to 2018 vintage.
