Thymiopoulos, ‘Aftorizo’ Naoussa 2016

Νew, much-anticipated effort from Apostolos Thymiopoulos skyrocketing Naoussa to a new price level. The 'Aftorizo' (ungrafted) is a single vineyard Naoussa from Fitia at 450 m altitude. Grapes are sourced from a 0.5 hectares vineyard planted in 1966 on schist and granite soils. Harvested 5th-17th October, 15% whole bunch, spontaneous fermentation for 3 months, 40 days of maceration. Matured on 2nd use 500lts French oak for 12 months. On the nose it is seductively perfumed and floral with roses and violets' scents. For all these aromas there is a solid core of fruit and underlying minerality. It is the quality of the tannins that stand out on the palate along with lip-smacking acidity that gives an epic wine of refinement, perfume, and long finish. Delicious now, better with age.
